The Challenge
What is Ride500?
Ride500 is a month-long challenge that invites you to cycle 500kms this September to help end cancer. Set your km target, get on your bike and help fund world-class research, prevention programs, and support services for those affected by cancer.
Where can I ride?
You can ride anywhere you like! On the road, on the track, or at the gym – all the rides you track throughout September count towards your challenge.
Do I have to ride 500kms?
Ride500 is all about challegning yourself. The more you challenge yourself, the more your mates will get behind you.
Set a km goal that will challenge you. Remember, you can always change your goal if you feel you have aimed too high or too low. All you need to do is log in to your dashboard and click on the ‘My Fitness Activity' tab.
Can I ride in a team with people that live far away from me?
Ride500 is a virtual challenge so you can be a team with your friends or colleagues no matter where they live and exercise separately. When you register, you have the option to select 'create' or 'join' a team, so you can team up with your mates on your ride.
I’m not a serious cyclist. Can I take part?
Yes! We encourage cyclists of all levels to take on the Ride500 challenge. There are different challenge options to suit each level – go on, you can do it!
How do I track my kms?
- If you haven’t already download the Strava or Fitbit app.
- Login to your Ride500 dashboard and select the ‘My Fitness Activity’ tab.
- Under the heading ‘Connect to your preferred app’, click your chosen app.
- Follow the prompts to connect your app.
- On your ride, start and stop your fitness activity in your app each time and it will sync your rides to your Ride500 profile, so you can view it in your dashboard.
For more information, check out our guide on 'How to track your KMs'.
Can I start riding now?
Yes, you can start riding now. All rides completed before September 1 will be considered training rides and with any cumulative KMs reset to zero on September 1.

The team I want to join is not listed.

I registered to ride solo, but now I’d like to create a team with my mates, how do I do this?
Fundraising
Where does my fundraising go?
The funds you raise through your Ride500 challenge go directly to Cancer Council NSW to help fund our life-saving cancer research and prevention programs, as well as our vital support services for people affected by cancer and their families. To find out more, click here to check out the Your Impact page.
How do I collect donations?
Donations can be made through your fundraising page. Simply send the link to your friends, family and colleagues to sponsor your efforts. You are also able to bank offline donations through your dashboard. Contact us for more details.
Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes, all donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
Should I use the Facebook Donate fundraising option?
While you can fundraise by sharing your page URL on Facebook, we ask that you do not use Facebook's ‘Add a Donate Button’ or 'Create a Fundraiser'. This will process the donation through Facebook, and we will be unable to add this to your Ride500 fundraising page.
How do I share my fundraising page link?
An easy way to share your fundraising page is to log in to your dashboard and click the 'shared on social' icon. Another easy way to do this is to click on our 'Get Sponsors' tab that will lead you to an email we've written for you.
